We’re 100 Today!

Today, January 14, 2026, marks a momentous milestone in our community's history: Stoke Heath Primary School is 100 years old!

It was exactly a century ago that our first headteacher, Bertha Evans, opened the doors to Stoke Heath Infant School to welcome its first 375 children. That day wasn't just the start of a new term; it was the birth of a permanent "beacon of learning and love" for our community.

A Century of Resilience, Industry, and Sanctuary 🛡️

Our school's story is deeply woven into the fabric of Coventry’s industrial heritage. We began as a school built to support the families of munitions workers at the nearby Parkside and Siddeley-Deasy factories.

Throughout the decades, Stoke Heath has been a place of sanctuary in every sense of the word:

 * The Strength of Community: Between 1915 and 1920, local families led the Stoke Heath Rent Strike, proving that we are a community that leaves no one behind.

 * A Place of Safety: During the Coventry Blitz, on July 14, 1941, school log books record our building serving as a public air raid shelter.

 * A Legacy of Welcome: Long before our modern badge featured a globe and handshake, our school community was welcoming Belgian refugees as far back as 1915.

Bridging the Gap: 1926 – 2126 🕰️

Although our name, badge, and building have evolved, the heart of the school remains the same. We continue to be a place of learning, belonging and sanctuary.

During our centenary year, our pupils will become history detectives. They will explore our fascinating logbooks and old photographs.

The party kicks off this Friday with several special activities:

  •  Centenary Birthday Cards: Our children will be designing cards to celebrate our first 100 years.

  •  Letters to the Future: Pupils are writing messages to the children of 2126. These will be buried in a Centenary Time Capsule later this year to be discovered by the next generation of Stoke Heath learners!
