Homework

Reading

At Stoke Heath, we value the importance of family learning and are committed to supporting parents and carers to become involved in their own child’s learning both at school and at home. One of the best ways to do this is by simply talking with your child about their school day and their learning experiences.

Reading is of the utmost importance to us at Stoke Heath. Children must be able to read well to access the full curriculum, and we are uncompromising in our quest to ensure every child is a reader. If you hear your child read, please fill in their planner with the date, a short comment about their reading and a signature. Older children can fill these details themselves if you are unable to hear them every day. We require children from Year 1 upwards to be reading at least five times per week at home and reward them for this.

Homework Expectations

Reception

Children will bring a phonics reading practice book home, please read with your child daily at home (10 minutes) and record in their reading diaries when you do so. The children need to read every day to help them increase their phonic knowledge and broaden their vocabulary.

The children will also be bringing home a reading for pleasure book.  This is a book for you to enjoy sharing with your child.  Your child may like to have this book read to them as this isn’t their daily reading book.  They will have chosen this book from our school library, and it will be changed weekly.
